Student Manager Reports is licensed on a per-user basis. That means each user who wants to create and/or run reports requires a license. Here's how licensing works:

  • Until Student Manager Reports has been activated, it runs in "unactivated" mode. You are asked each time you run Student Manager Reports if you want to activate it. If you choose to do so, the License Manager appears. Click the Add button to add a license. The registration number that appears is based on several factors, one of which is information about the system where Student Manager Reports is installed (not necessarily the workstation it's running on, but the system where the program resides). Enter the serial number you were given when you purchased Student Manager Reports and click Online to activate it. The activation code that appears is also based on several factors, including the registration number, serial number, and number of licenses purchased. Licensing information is stored in a file named SFQuery.lic in the Data subdirectory of the program folder. For an unlimited license file, the file is named Unlimited.lic.

  • Users in the Administrators user group (such as the ADMIN user) are the only ones who have access to the Maintain Users and Groups dialog in Student Manager Reports. In that dialog, an administrative user can only define as many user names as there are licenses. They can also specify which users use which licenses if more than one type of license is installed. For example, if there are two Ultimate and five Basic licenses, they can define up to two Ultimate users and five Basic users.

  • When you log in, Student Manager Reports does two checks. The first is how many users are currently running Student Manager Reports. If all licenses are currently in use (for example, five users are currently in Student Manager Reports and there are five licenses in total), you are informed of this and Student Manager Reports terminates. The second check is whether another user is logged in with the same user name. If so, you are informed of this and Student Manager Reports terminates. So, Student Manager Reports licensing is a combination of named users (you can only define as many user names as there are licenses) and concurrent use (only as many users as there are licenses can be logged in at the same time).

The License Manager in the Tools menu, which is only available for users in the Administrators user group, can be used to add or remove Student Manager Reports licenses or see the currently installed licenses.

License types

There are four types of licenses:

  • Basic: Basic users cannot create or edit reports and have certain other limitations.

  • Pro: Pro users can create and edit some report types and can create formulas.

  • Premium: Premium users can create and edit more report types than Pro and also have access to the Advanced Report Designer and Template Editor.

  • Ultimate: this is a replacement for the Report Designer license in earlier versions (existing Report Designer licenses now appear as "Ultimate"). Ultimate users have full functionality.

Earlier versions of Student Manager Reports had two types of licenses: Report Designer and Report Viewer. Report Designer licenses have been renamed to Ultimate. Report Viewer licenses are mostly the same as Basic but have a few more abilities. If you have a Report Viewer license, it appears as a Report Viewer license.
