With a recent annual growth rate of 35% per year the Bermuda Insurance Institute has seen a lot of change lately. One thing that hasn't changed is their registration database. An ACEware customer since 1996 BII has been pleased to discover that everything they've needed is available in Student Manager. "You know how it is: the more you do, the more people want you to do. We don't always know that we need a certain feature, but when we look for it, there it is or we can easily customize the database to suit our needs eg: to collect certain Bermuda specific statistics!" says Julie Preece, Director of Education & Training at Bermuda Insurance Institute (BII).

Bermuda is the 3rd largest insurance/reinsurance domicile in the world. Recognizing a need for an educated work force, the Bermuda Insurance Institute was formed in 1970 as a cooperative effort by insurance companies who pooled their resources to offer training from the insurance company perspective. In 2007 BII administered just over 1,100 exams, 20 courses and 26 seminars where the attendance topped a record 1,450 attendees. They function as a service-oriented organization that enjoys an outstanding reputation for quality training. Three full-time staff handles everything but the instruction, which is covered by a part-time teaching staff, local and overseas industry experts and professional trainers.

"Student Manager allows us to keep accurate student and tutor records, eyeball upcoming classes and seminars, reconcile credit card payments, and customize the screens to meet our needs. I'm a very simple person and I'm always pleased at how easy Student Manager is to use. We don't even call our tech very often: lots of things we can figure out how to fix or customize the way we want without help," Preece says. "Most of the reports we use are included with the program, but we've customized several for cash and accounting purposes."

"Last summer Chuck Havlicek paid us a visit. It was very useful to ask BII specific questions, even after all the time we've used the program and ACEware is constantly having new features added. We talked about this and that and how Student Manager could best accommodate our needs specifically. It was time very well spent." Preece notes.

BII is looking toward the future and will be investigating the purchase of ACEweb. "Growth is pushing us to work smarter, and that will include making the web work for us." says Preece. "Our board is pleased with our results and ACEweb is the next logical step."

Incorporated in to a more formal organization in 1984, BII continues to serve the insurance/re-insurance community of Bermuda. It is a perfect niche, with the Bermuda Insurance Institute being the only local organization offering professional training to the Bermuda insurance/re-insurance community, the third largest insurance domicile in the world. Utilizing a part-time teaching staff, the Institute offers seminars, workshops, conferences, courses and testing in support of the insurance/re-insurance industry.
